Developing new methods of bowel cancer treatments
More than 17,500 Australians will be diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016.
It's the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia.
A technique to improve research and treatment
Dr Dan Worthley and his team are growing bowel cancers cells in the lab. This new technique gives researchers the opportunity to test which drugs are most effective in treating bowel cancer, with much greater accuracy.
Using human bowel cancer cells like this means the results from the lab will help doctors take these discoveries into the clinic to benefit patients, faster.
