Heart health and stroke
Although strokes may ultimately affect the brain, they are in fact caused by vascular complications; stroke plays an incredibly important role in SAHMRI’s Heart Health theme.
Heart attack and stroke: many common factors
The current treatments for heart attacks and stroke are identical, and involve surgery to open up blocked blood vessels.
SAHMRI’s stroke research group is working hard to better prevent stroke from occurring, to develop a test for determining who may be more likely to suffer from a stroke and improve the management of acute stroke.
Early action is best
When showing symptoms of stroke or heart attack, it is vital to present to a hospital as soon as possible in order to receive the best treatment and reduce the risk of subsequent problems.
