Understanding heart rhythm disorders

Heart rhythm disorders include symptoms ranging from fainting and a racing heart, to strokes, heart failure and sudden death.

Understanding what impacts heart rhythm disorders

A great achievement in recent years has been the discovery that a range of lifestyle issues can impact on heart rhythm disorders. If patients can increase levels of physical activity, eat more healthily, and control their weight within healthy limits, they not only reduce the heart rhythm disorders they previously suffered from - they can completely reverse the health problem.

A researcher and a doctor

Professor Sanders is a medical researcher, and also a practising cardiologist. Like many of our researchers, this means he and his team have a clear perspective on what issues are really important to his patients. They see firsthand what is and isn't working in the clinic. Researchers who are also clinicians, like Professor Sanders, can use this information to help shape the direction of their research. This means our research is always relevant to people in the community - where it will have the biggest impact.

Acknowledgments

Professor Prash Sanders is also affiliated with The University of Adelaide and The Royal Adelaide Hospital.
