Improving cancer survival rates in Aboriginal people
Cancer survival rates in Aboriginal communities are much worse than in non-Aboriginal groups.
The aim of the Cancer Data and Aboriginal Disparities (CanDAD) project is to develop a detailed monitoring system for cancer, with a strong focus on Aboriginal people in South Australia.
A voice for Aboriginal cancer survivors
In keeping with SAHMRI's commitment to doing Aboriginal health research the right way, a community reference group made up of Aboriginal cancer survivors has provided a unique perspective on this project.
The CanDAD project invited Aboriginal cancer survivors to share their experience as a patient. Our researchers then look for overarching themes that come up through these personal stories. A key aspec of this project involves acknowledging the importance of sharing stories and personal experiences.
